Why Choose a Glass Disc Encoder?
The most common Haas VF and SL encoder is a magnetic style, which has a far greater fail rate and is considerably less expensive to produce than the Glass Disc style encoder you will find on all the high-end machines such as Mori Seiki, Mazak, Okuma, and more. Magnetic encoders are often unable to give an accurate reading at a low RPM and have less accurate results overall. What is more, they are also susceptible to the magnetic pull of stray magnetic fields around them.
In contrast, glass disc encoders offer accurate results that are unimpeded by magnetic pull. These encoders are easily purchased in any line count application you need them for.
